Exploring Authentic Sicily at Villa Cammaratini

The “Sicilian Gourmet & Experience” Project by Antonio di Rosa

Antonio di Rosa, an entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in the air transport industry, has decided to invest his expertise in tourism by creating a unique and fascinating project: Sicilian Gourmet & Experience. His property, Villa Cammaratini, located in the heart of the Modica countryside, will become the backdrop for an initiative that aims to combine Sicilian culinary tradition with the experience of living in a luxury farmhouse.

The Villa

Villa Cammaratini, a skillfully renovated country villa, stands in Modica, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the setting for the famous TV series “Inspector Montalbano.” The villa offers accommodation for 13 guests, distributed among six double rooms with private bathrooms and air conditioning, and one single room. The double rooms can be converted into single rooms if needed. The villa includes a main building and two annexes, one of which is a suite, and features a large swimming pool (9×19 meters).

The main building offers three bedrooms: two standard rooms, one of which you can convert into a double or triple room, and a superior room with a whirlpool bathtub. One of the annexes is a suite with a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom, also suitable for people with disabilities. The other annex features a small bedroom with a private bathroom and a small bedroom that shares the bathroom with a single room.

The Project

Driven by the desire to showcase his homeland, Sicily, beyond the crystalline beauty of its waters, Antonio di Rosa has conceived a project called Sicilian Gourmet & Experience.

“Sicily is also an expression of unspoiled nature.”

His project aims to be a concrete demonstration of this statement.

The mission is to promote tradition, exclusivity, conviviality, and gastronomic culture, allowing for healthy and joyful involvement of all those interested in learning about and immersing themselves in new cultures, feeling like an integral part of the territory they are gradually exploring.

Sicilian Gourmet & Experience invites couples passionate about cooking to discover Sicilian culinary traditions not just as spectators, but as protagonists. The project aims to offer a comprehensive food and wine experience, closely connected to the local farming culture, through experiential paths among vineyards, wineries, and the confectionery and cheesemaking arts of Modica.

Local homemakers or experts will lead the cooking classes, focusing on creating typical Sicilian dishes. Villa Cammaratini will hold these classes daily, mainly in the morning, with organized excursions on alternate days. The organizers aim to promote Sicilian tradition, exclusivity, conviviality, and gastronomic culture by actively involving participants in the preparation of dishes.

Structure of the Cooking Course

One of the cooking courses includes:

  • Historical and gastronomic introduction to the dishes to be prepared
  • Demonstration of the ingredients and organization of the workstations by the chef
  • Hands-on preparation of dishes with the assistance of the chef
  • Sharing of local culinary secrets
  • Final preparation of the dishes

The Excursions

The project includes three main excursions:

1. A company visit to Thalass, a producer of high-end restaurant dishes and other glassworks, and to Bonajuto pastry shop, with dinner at a local farm.

2. Visit and dinner at one of the best wineries in the area, Cantina Rio Favara.

3. Guided tour of Syracuse and Ortigia, with lunch at a restaurant in Portopalo and a visit to Marzamemi.

Duration and Participation

The project, lasting seven nights, takes place from Saturday to Saturday during the last two weeks of April, May, June, September, and the first fifteen days of October. It is designed for a maximum of six couples, but if participants are single, the number can go up to thirteen. The price varies based on the type of participation.

Transportation and Logistics

The package includes transfers to and from Catania Airport and the use of two nine-seater Mercedes minibuses with a driver for excursions. On days without scheduled visits, two minibuses without drivers are available for autonomous explorations.

Sicilian Gourmet & Experience is a project that promises not just a cooking course, but a complete immersion in Sicilian culture and traditions. You will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the high quality of the ingredients used, listen to and retrace their history through an expert, and finally get hands-on in the kitchen aiming to achieve the best possible results. Antonio di Rosa’s villa, with its rustic charm and modern comforts, is the ideal place to live an unforgettable experience centered around good food, relaxation, and the discovery of a more intimate side of Sicily.

Antonio di Rosa is enthusiastic about this new adventure and ready to offer his guests a unique journey into the heart of Sicily.
