Vini d’Abbazia 2025: Discover Wine, History, and Heritage in Lazio This June

Celebrate abbey wines, wine tourism, and cultural roots in the spiritual heart of Italy

From June 6 to 8, Vini d’Abbazia 2025 returns to the historic Fossanova Abbey in Priverno, Lazio. Set against the Cistercian cloister’s arches, this celebration of monastic winemaking invites wine lovers, travelers, and culture seekers to explore the deep ties between spirituality and viticulture. Now in its fourth edition, the event blends tradition, taste, and terroir, reaffirming Lazio’s growing importance as a wine tourism destination.

A Unique Destination for Wine and Culture

Fossanova Abbey, just over an hour from Rome, is a stunning example of 12th-century architecture. Known for its connection to Saint Thomas Aquinas, it offers more than beauty and history. It provides an immersive space where every glass of wine tells a story of place, people, and spiritual legacy.

For those traveling to Italy in 2025, especially during Jubilee events, Vini d’Abbazia offers a rich cultural experience. Visitors will find authentic encounters that blend history, spirituality, and the pleasures of wine in a unique setting.

Over 30 Abbey and Monastic Producers

The three-day event gathers abbey and monastery wineries from across Italy, France, and Georgia.

From the Benedictine traditions of Tuscany to Georgia’s Alaverdi Monastery, visitors will taste centuries of winemaking wisdom. Secular producers are also included. Their estates are historically linked to monasteries, blending spiritual heritage with agricultural tradition. Together, they show how these influences have shaped Italy’s diverse and enduring wine landscape.

Masterclasses That Travel Through Time and Terroir

In the abbey’s restored refectory, six masterclasses offer a sensory journey through time, terroir, and cultural traditions. Acclaimed wine experts and journalists lead the sessions, exploring history, technique, and regional identity.

Highlights include “Cesanese: The Pope’s Wine,” “The Wine of the Romans,” and “The Journey,” a guided tasting tied to landscapes and spirituality.

These sessions not only deepen appreciation for wine but emphasize how wine travel contributes to education and regional identity.

Lazio’s Role in Wine Tourism and the Jubilee

Vini d’Abbazia 2025 is part of Le Vie del Giubileo (The Jubilee Paths), a regional initiative celebrating faith, culture, and gastronomy during the Holy Year. Promoted by Regione Lazio and ARSIAL, the program spotlights spiritual destinations and culinary excellence through events like this. With Lazio’s countryside and historic abbeys becoming focal points, wine tourism is positioned as a sustainable and educational form of travel.

According to recent tourism data, wine tourism in Italy continues to grow, with over 14 million enotourists visiting wine regions annually. Events like Vini d’Abbazia contribute to this trend by offering immersive cultural content, tastings, and local hospitality—all within a context of authenticity and regional pride.

Food & Wine Village and Public Talks

Each evening from 4:30 to 10:00 PM, visitors can stroll the cloister to sample wines and enjoy Lazio’s gastronomic specialties. Alongside the tasting booths is the Food & Wine Village, where flavors meet storytelling. Public meetings and debates throughout the event offer insights into the social, economic, and spiritual roles of wine, featuring monks, cultural leaders, and journalists. These conversations make wine the gateway to deeper understanding.

Spotlight on Women in Wine

One of Sunday’s featured discussions, “Wine According to Women,” focuses on the female voice in wine innovation and sustainability. With speakers from Donne del Vino Lazio, Donne in Campo CIA, and other organizations, the session highlights how women are shaping the future of wine through both heritage and new ideas. This aligns with a broader movement within wine tourism to emphasize inclusivity and diversity in storytelling.

Easy Access from Rome and the Coast

Priverno is located near the Parco Nazionale del Circeo and Sabaudia’s beaches, making it easy to combine Vini d’Abbazia with a broader trip to Lazio. Whether you’re coming for the Jubilee year or planning a summer getaway, the event is a perfect detour for curious travelers. From Rome, trains run to Priverno-Fossanova station, and local hospitality partners are available on the event’s website.
