Sanremo Senior 2025 Welcomes Canadian Vocalist Frank Gioia Performing “Marina”

The Sanremo Senior 2025 International Singing and Music Competition returns to Sanremo, Italy, from October 23–25, bringing together singers from 17 countries. Among this year’s performers is Canadian vocalist Frank Gioia, representing his country on one of Italy’s most celebrated musical stages

Honoring a Classic Italian Song

Gioia will perform “Marina,” the beloved hit by Italian-Belgian legend Rocco Granata, whose 1959 success at Sanremo inspired generations of artists. The song holds special significance for Gioia—both his father and Granata were born in Figline Vegliaturo, a small village in Calabria. Decades later, Gioia’s interpretation connects their shared roots through music, bridging continents and generations.

Together with musician Frank Greco, Gioia reimagined Marina as a piano-led arrangement highlighting its romantic warmth. Their version, praised for its elegance and emotion, honors Granata’s melody while adding modern depth.

Sharing Italian Music with the World

My participation at Sanremo Senior 2025 is both a personal milestone and a great opportunity to share Canadian talent. It’s an honor to bring my roots and my voice to Italy.

The performance also appears in Music Del Cuore (Music from the Heart), Gioia’s touring show celebrating the emotional power of Italian song. Audiences in Toronto have embraced it at Taste of Little Italy and the Lavazza IncluCity Film Festival, where Gioia’s performances highlight how music connects generations and cultures.
