Winter travel in the Dolomites has always been shaped by the outdoors. Snow-covered landscapes, alpine air, and time spent outside define the experience. Increasingly, however, travelers are also seeking ways to balance nature with moments of connection, culture, and play.

In San Vigilio di Marebbe, a new experience reflects that evolving rhythm. Italy’s first escape room created entirely within a hotel introduces a playful, story-driven layer to winter stays in Northern Italy—without replacing what makes the Dolomites essential.
A First for Italy
Escape rooms are familiar across Europe, yet this concept marks a first for Italy. Rather than occupying a single room, the experience is woven throughout the hotel itself. Corridors, shared spaces, and architectural details become part of the narrative.
The result blurs the line between hospitality and storytelling. Guests are invited to explore the building in a new way, guided by clues, observation, and collaboration rather than maps or schedules.
An Experience Inspired by Place
What distinguishes this escape room is its connection to local identity. The storyline draws on elements of Ladin culture, art, and mystery, grounding the experience firmly in the Dolomites rather than relying on generic themes.
The game begins with a sealed envelope containing the first clue. From there, participants follow a sequence of riddles, hidden details, and codes, gradually assembling a larger story. The objective is to solve the case within 75 minutes, but the journey is as much about noticing as it is about finishing.
How the Experience Works
Designed for small groups, the escape room is accessible and flexible.
- Duration: approximately 75 minutes
- Participants: 3 to 6 players
- Languages available: Italian, German, and English
- Suitable for families, friends, corporate groups, and hotel guests
Because the experience is fully integrated into the hotel, it fits naturally into a winter itinerary.
A Winter Experience Rooted in Real Travel

Time outdoors remains central to any stay in the Dolomites. Snowy walks, alpine landscapes, and fresh mountain air define the region. At the same time, authentic winter travel also means adapting to weather, energy, and pace.
With global attention building around the upcoming Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Northern Italy is emerging as a region to watch—not only for sport, but for experience-driven travel that reflects how people truly move through a destination. Increasingly, that means blending outdoor activity with cultural and social moments indoors.
This escape room is designed with that balance in mind. It is not a substitute for nature, but a complement to it. On colder afternoons, stormy evenings, or quieter rest days, it offers a way to stay engaged without disconnecting from place.
Rather than pulling travelers away from the landscape, the experience adds another layer to it—one shaped by storytelling, collaboration, and local culture.
Practical Information
The escape room will be available from mid-January 2026 in San Vigilio di Marebbe, at the foot of Plan de Corones. Participation is available by reservation, with the option to pair the experience with dining or relaxation as part of a longer stay.
When Play Becomes Part of Place
Across Italy, hospitality continues to evolve beyond accommodation alone. Hotels are increasingly becoming spaces for interaction, creativity, and shared experiences.
In the Dolomites, Italy’s first hotel escape room reflects that shift in a thoughtful way. It respects the primacy of the outdoors while acknowledging how travelers actually experience winter. Here, play becomes part of place—and part of an authentic rhythm of travel. For more information, visit ama-stay.com/ and follow @ama.stay
