Matteo Zanni

Italian Wine Contributor

I'm Matteo Zanni, 28, from Comacchio, a small town in Emilia Romagna, famous for its valleys, its lagoon cuisine and its suggestive views. The love for this small village is at the crossroads between Emilia and Romagna and between the Food Valley. The great Sangiovese of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines led me first to form my curiosity and then to work, experiencing first-hand the highest expression of the territory. I currently work as sommelier at the 1 Michelin Star restaurant, La Zanzara restaurant. It is located in the park of the Po Delta, in my Emilia. You can also breathe a bit of Romagna and unmistakably Venetian influences. But my adventure began much earlier among the vineyards in the Chianti area of Arezzo, which inspired my love for this world since I was a child. I received a sommelier certificate first, followed by earning the AIS professional sommelier title. Finally, I advanced towards more ambitious and coveted awards such as the WSET Level 3 award in wines. Working my way to the top, among other roles as sommelier, I worked at the Maffei Restaurant in Verona. I now manage a cellar with 700 references and a professional consulting site for restaurateurs and individuals, matteozannisommelier.it.
